ZTE N880E Would be The First Non-Nexus Device to Get Android 4.2
It was reported earlier that the N880E would be ZTE’s first Android 4.1 smartphone and the company has taken one step further by planning to release an Android 4.2 update. This would be the first Android 4.2 handset released by a Chinese manufacturer. The N880E is currently available in China and it has been sold in about 1 million units.
It is unfortunate that the new OS isn’t matched by cutting hardware specs. The N880E has 1GHz Qualcomm MSM7627A, 4” WVGA display, 512MB of RAM, 3Mp rear-facing camera, microSD card slot, 4GB of onboard storage and a relatively sizable 1650mAH battery.
However, we could see this as ZTE’s preliminary attempt to bring more Android 4.2 handsets into the market. Android 4.2 debuted very recently with the LG – Google Nexus 4 and updates are available immediately for Google Nexus 7 tablet and the older Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone. We could expect ZTE to apply only light cosmetic changes on the Android 4.2.
