T-Mobile’s Motorola Cliq 2 Gets an Update to Gingerbread
Most of the time, updates are delivered to popular smartphones, which are less than 18 months old. Mobile carriers usually stop supporting phones that no longer sells and after a while they’ll discontinue them altogether. This time around, T-Mobile takes a different approach and releases an update for the Motorola Cliq 2. The carrier no longer offers the smartphone, but it doesn’t mean you can’t get an update if you still use one.
An update to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) is a big thing for Cliq 2’s users, but unfortunately they can’t get it over the air. To get this major update, they need to plug the smartphone into the PC. The update adds a number of enhancements such as improved word selection, better cursor control, dock icon functionality, sleep mode, more efficient power management, apps grouping, browser search engine, improved icons and a download manager app.
The Motorola Cliq 2 gets performance improvement too, including faster wallpaper and widget load times. The WiFi hotspot signal reception has been improved as well as battery life and WiFi calling. The handset initially came with Android 2.2 (Froyo) and it has a 3.7” (480×854) display, which can be considered as “high definition (HD)”.
