ST Ericsson Announces NovaThor L8580 with Excellent Connectivity Options
ST-Ericsson is hot off the heels of more popular mobile processor manufacturers; Samsung, Qualcomm and Nvidia. The company claims that its NovaThor L8580 would be the most powerful LTE-capable mobile processor in the market. Additionally, the chip uses only 50 percent the power consumption compared to the competitors.
Unlike some high-end processors, the NovaThor L8580 uses four ARM Cortex A9 cores, instead of ARM Cortex A15. Using only 0.6V of power, the entire architecture can go as high as 2.6GHz. The built-in models support ten bands of LTE, HSPA, TD-SCDMA and GSM bands. This will make it easy for phone makers to sell devices globally.
There’s also support for NFC, Bluetooth, GPS and other connectivity options. But, it remains to be seen whether a processor based on ARM Cortex A9 would be able to match others using Cortex A15 cores. It is more reasonable to suspect that the NovaThor L8580 will power.
