Samsung will Release an 11.6-inch Tablet
Sources reported that a larger version of Samsung Galaxy Tab with 11.6″ display will be released officially next year. Another rumor said that the tablet will be launched in February when the Mobile World Congress will be held in Barcelona. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 11.6 will run the Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), making it among the earliest slate to get the newest Android version.
The tablet will be significantly faster than its predecessors and its arch-rival, the iPad 2. The lightning-fast 2 GHz dual core Exynos processor will help to generate vivid images, videos and 3D graphics on the 2560×1600 resolution screen. Due to the slimmer bezel, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 11.6 will be slightly bigger than the10.1 version. The tablet offers an implementation of NFC (near field communications), called the Android Beam which offers better file transfer capability than Bluetooth.
Samsung’s upcoming tablet will feature wireless docking, which can be used for various purposes including playing Android games on HDTV. This technology directly competes with Apple TV and the Airplay. Apple has yet to offer a tablet with retina display and by releasing an 11.6-inch tablet with the retina resolution, Apple will find itself losing in terms of feature offered.
The Android Beam can only be used with other devices using the same technology, such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The news about Samsung Galaxy Tab 11.6 follows the recent Samsung’s legal victory over Apple, which allowed the Korean manufacturer to continue selling its tablets in Australia. This effectively overturns the earlier ban on the sale of Samsung Galaxy Tab.
