Nvidia Tegra 4 vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 800In CES 2013, we saw the imminent arrivals of new SoCs ; Nvidia Tegra 4, Samsung Exynos 5 Octa and Qualcomm Snapdragon 200/400/600/800. While the Exynos 5 Octa will be reserved only for smartphones, the other two will also be used on tablets. In a recent press coverage, Nvidia offered more details on its upcoming system-on-chip compared to Qualcomm’s solutions.

The Tegra 4 will be assigned for high-end devices and it will push the limit in terms of raw performance and features offered. The SoC comes with improved HDR photographic capability, which has a short interval of 0.2 seconds between shots. With its built-in 72 cores of GeForce GPU, Tegra 4 devices will be able to support 4k videos. In terms of graphical processing, the Tegra 4 may have six times the performance level compared to the current Tegra 3.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 is a direct enhancement over the S4 Pro, which offers approximately 40 percent enhancements in performance. The Adreno 330 GPU will also double the performance level of Adreno 320 GPU used by S4 Pro. Both Tegra 4 and Snapdragon 800 are capable of handling 4k content as well as offering better support for 4G LTE connectivity.

    Speaking about Equinox Octa. I don’t see any point in releasing a processor with eight cores where only four cores will work at a time. Here I will believe the statement by the Samsung that the reason for releasing such a processor might be development failure.
