There were days when smartphones powered with a 1GHz single-core processor were high-end premium models and must have devices for true phone fans. But that’s so yesterday and after continuous advancements in technology, quad-core handsets becoming the norm and now we have news that there’ll be 30 devices running Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor landing this year. This fact was revealed recently when the graphic card maker hosted the annual “Analyst Day”. Last year, phone makers released 15 different phone models with Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor and this year, Nvidia is aiming for something bigger.
Tegra 2 handsets proved to be moderately successful in the market. The HTC One X has been released on the market and the LG Optimus 4X HD is expected to arrive very soon, which means 28 more Tegra 3-powered handsets will be coming this year. In addition, there will also be tablets running this processor. Of these 28 handsets, 18 will be destined for the huge Chinese market and will be sold mostly under $300. Processor technology is always advancing and new chipsets are less power hungry than before. Consequently, Tegra 3 devices are expected to have the right balance between raw performance and battery life.
